I’m infuriated. Have you seen this? No, probably not.
Recently, there was a resolution brought before the University of Washington Student Senate. You can read it here. Essentially, it was to honor COL G. “Pappy” Boyington, USMC. You may, or may not, remember him from WW2, when he commanded the famous “Black Sheep” squadron. He went on to be awarded the Medal of Honor. He was an American Hero.
Should be an easy resolution to pass? Perhaps not on the campuses of American universities.
Read the transcripts of the Senate meeting. Specifically, it can be found at the bottom of page 4 through page 8.
The resolution was DEFEATED. Why? Well, let’s look at some of the comments raised:
Jill Edwards doesn’t believe that a Marine is the type of person to be honored as an example of the type of person UW wants to produce.
Ashley Miller feels that there are already too many monuments to rich white men.

UW Rejects Memorial for Pappy Boyington.
Posted by cump on February 14, 2006
This shouldn’t surprise anyone; the modern day American University is a font of prejudice and ignorant bigotry. It is pathetic how little value a Liberal Arts education has these days.
Sister Toldjah writes:
The University of Washington’s student senate has rejected a memorial for Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Gregory “Pappy” Boyington. Why? WND has the details:
The University of Washington’s student senate rejected a memorial for alumnus Gregory “Pappy” Boyington of “Black Sheep Squadron” fame amid concerns a military hero who shot down enemy planes was not the right kind of person to represent the school.
Student senator Jill Edwards, according to minutes of the student government’s meeting last week, said she “didn’t believe a member of the Marine Corps was an example of the sort of person UW wanted to produce.”
Ashley Miller, another senator, argued “many monuments at UW already commemorate rich white men.”
Senate member Karl Smith amended the resolution to eliminate a clause that said Boyington “was credited with destroying 26 enemy aircraft, tying the record for most aircraft destroyed by a pilot in American Uniform,” for which he was awarded the Navy Cross.
Smith, according to the minutes, said “the resolution should commend Colonel Boyington’s service, not his killing of others.”

AAUP Conference Cancelled
Posted by cump on February 12, 2006
From the boys at St. Cloud University comes this gem about the state of academic freedom today.
Res ipse loquitur:
The American Association of University Professors (AAUP) announced Thursday it would postpone a conference on academic boycotts scheduled to begin next week in Bellagio, Italy.
The conference, which was originally sponsored by the Ford, Rockefeller and Nathan Cummings Foundations, came under attack due to the fact that more than 8 of the 21 academics invited to participate in the conference publicly support boycotts of Israeli universities. Another decisive revelation that led to the postponement of the conference was that material distributed prior to the conference included an anti-Semitic paper by a Holocaust denier.

A Liberal Haven’s Dirty Secret

From Conservative Punk:
02/11/06 A Liberal Haven’s Dirty Little Secret
Santa Fe, New Mexico, the progressive city that touts itself as “the Art Capital of the U.S.A.,” makes a bigger show of its “diversity” than Oprah Winfrey makes out of being generous with other people’s money.
But, underneath the veneer of “tolerance” lies a virulent intolerance for the people who built Santa Fe, as limousine liberals use zoning laws and gentrification to move the city’s native Hispanic and American Indian populations out to the fringes.
In his profile of native Santa Fe artists, photojournalist Robert Jones paints a portrait of three artisans persevering against the insidious corporate art culture taking over their hometown……..

Mini-Ice Age Predicted
Posted by cump on February 7, 2006
“ST. PETERSBURG, Russia, Feb. 7 (UPI) — A Russian astronomer has predicted that Earth will experience a “mini Ice Age” in the middle of this century, caused by low solar activity.
Khabibullo Abdusamatov of the Pulkovo Astronomic Observatory in St. Petersburg said Monday that temperatures will begin falling six or seven years from now, when global warming caused by increased solar activity in the 20th century reaches its peak, RIA Novosti reported.
The coldest period will occur 15 to 20 years after a major solar output decline between 2035 and 2045, Abdusamatov said.
Dramatic changes in the earth’s surface temperatures are an ordinary phenomenon, not an anomaly, he said, and result from variations in the sun’s energy output and ultraviolet radiation.
The Northern Hemisphere’s most recent cool-down period occurred between 1645 and 1705. The resulting period, known as the Little Ice Age, left canals in the Netherlands frozen solid and forced people in Greenland to abandon their houses to glaciers, the scientist said.”
